Self-Portrait Shirts with Every Student’s Personality

The glasses. The curls. The wonderfully wonky smiles. Self-portrait shirts capture the way your students see themselves and bring those individual drawings into one class keepsake.

What are self-portrait shirts?

Self-portrait shirts bring drawings made by the students in your class into one printed shirt design. Each child draws on a paper template; an adult organizer collects the artwork, shirt sizes and completed order form, then mails the packet to Classroom Faces. The class layout is provided for proof review before printing.

For kindergarten teachers, the drawing activity is part of the project: students contribute their own portraits, and the finished shirt brings the class together. Explore the real examples below to compare single-ink and full-color designs.

Review before printing

Check your class layout proof, names and wording before approving the design.

Look closely at three self-portrait approaches

Compare the full-color drawings on white with the single-ink portraits on blue and green. Notice how the children’s individual features stay part of the shared class layout. Choose the print option before preparing the artwork.

A classroom art activity with somewhere to go

Each student draws a self-portrait on your selected paper template. Classroom Faces arranges the submitted drawings into a shirt design and provides a layout proof for review. The project belongs to the students from the first pencil line.

Choose a template students can use comfortably

Browse the face and blank drawing templates before printing your class set. Larger templates give students more drawing room and are reduced for the finished layout. Keep the selected template consistent across the class and follow the directions printed on the sheet.

Help the drawings reproduce clearly

Read the instructions for your chosen single-ink or full-color option before the activity. Artwork may be reduced to fit the class on the smallest ordered shirt, so clear lines and simple details matter. Let students express themselves while keeping drawings inside the printable area.

Collect the class without a last-minute scramble

Keep a private checklist for drawings and shirt sizes. Schedule a make-up drawing opportunity for absences. Keep original artwork together, check spelling in the class wording and compare the quantities on the form with your collected sizes.

Review the proof with fresh eyes

Check that the class wording is correct and the submitted drawings are represented. Follow the proof instructions and ask questions before approving the layout. Proof review is part of the schedule, alongside mailing, processing and outbound shipping.

Choose your shirt option and plan the cost

Your selected print option, shirt quantities and any applicable extras determine the order cost. Review the pricing page alongside the matching order form before collecting payments from families. Check the shirt and ink choices for your option; do not assume every combination shown in an older example is currently available.

The project centers on your students’ original drawings, the class wording on the order form and a layout proof to review. Check the form for the specific product’s requirements and inclusions. If you are considering a graduation or “Class of” layout, ask which option fits your class before starting the artwork.

What to have ready before you mail

  • Original drawings made with one selected template size and the supplies specified in the drawing directions.
  • Checked class wording, shirt and ink selections, and quantities reconciled against your private size list.
  • The completed order form for your selected option, including the contact, shipping and payment information it requests.
  • Time for inbound mailing, processing, your proof review and outbound shipping. Review shipping information and confirm current timing before promising a date.

Your next three steps

1. Explore finished shirt examples and review pricing for your option.

2. Download drawing templates, read the directions and use a parent letter to collect responses.

3. Download the matching order form, check your quantities and mail the original drawings and completed packet using the form’s instructions.

Quick answers for your class-shirt project

Can the teacher have a portrait on the shirt?

Yes. Teachers and assistants can contribute their own drawings. Use the same selected template size as the class and follow the drawing directions.

What wording can we include?

Common choices include the school name, teacher’s name, grade and school year. Keep wording concise so the portraits remain the focus, and check spelling on your layout proof.

How do we choose the shirt and ink colors?

Use the shirt and ink color previews to compare recommended combinations. Then follow the instructions for your chosen single-ink, full-color or “Class of” option.

How do we pay for the order?

Follow the matching order form for check or school purchase-order requirements. If paying by card, Classroom Faces emails a Square payment link. See the complete payment FAQs.

Can we order extra shirts later?

Use the reorder page for additional shirts from an existing class design. Review the current printing, ink and layout-change requirements before completing the reorder form.

Questions before you start?

Ordering is coordinated by an adult teacher, school staff member or parent organizer. Students draw on paper; no student account or artwork upload is needed. For product requirements and ordering details, read the FAQs. For a specific event date, ask the team about current timing.
